One of the most shocking moments of 2023 was when Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater both filed for divorce from their respective spouses to be with one another after falling in love on the set of Wicked. The public labeled Grande, who left her husband of three years, Dalton Gomez, a homewrecker, and Slater’s name was dragged through the mud as he left his wife, his high school sweetheart, whom he recently had a child with. Messy doesn’t even begin to cover it.
But now, just over two years later and just months ahead of Wicked: For Good‘s release, their names are back in headlines, but for different reasons: apparently, their relationship is over—for good. Keep reading for more information.
Ariana Grande & Ethan Slater Break Up
Breakup rumors have been swirling for the past couple weeks, and there's a lot of speculation over what did the couple in. Given they're both actors in the same movie, it seemed like they wouldn't have much trouble keeping up with one another's schedule.
However, an inside source recently told the Daily Mail that now that Ariana's career is back in full swing, with an upcoming arena tour, the SpongeBob: The Musical performer is having a tough time keeping up with her demanding schedule and lifestyle. "He sometimes wonders if he should have stayed in his quieter world; the contrast is brutal," the source told the publication.
"He loves her, but he's drowning in the circus of her life," a source added. "He's used to a controlled Broadway stage, not sold-out arenas screaming for every move. Even when he's home, he's mentally halfway through the tour or rehearsals. It's exhausting just watching him try to keep up."

Is The Relationship Toxic?
Other fans think it's not just their careers getting in the way of their relationship. According to reports, the relationship had been "on and off for most of this year." Insiders called it "unhealthy" and "toxic," citing the pressures of being in the spotlight as the underlying issue.
As one of the stars of Wicked: For Good, Grande's promotional commitments are much more intense than Slater's and she's putting her career as #1 on her priority list, while her relationship with Ethan slips down a few pegs. Insiders think this change is what's contributed to the decision to break up for good.
