Many of us have been told that one of the best ways to lose weight and stay on a consistent, healthy weight-loss journey is to eat in a calorie deficit. However, when it comes time to grocery shop, it can be difficult to choose which food items you should select that will help you lower your daily calorie consumption.

While you may want to reduce how many calories you eat in a day, it doesn’t mean you have to give up some of your favorite convenient foods, nor stop shopping at popular grocery stores like Costco. If you love shopping at Costco but want to start losing weight via a calorie deficit, you’re in luck.

A registered dietitian and content creator, Lauren Hubert, MS, RD, made a TikTok video that shows off some of her favorite Costco products that she recommends to those following a calorie deficit. Each item is high in protein and can be used to create a tasty, filling meal. Check out her eight high-protein Costco food recommendations below!

1. 24-Count Pasture Raised Eggs

At the start of her video, Lauren selects a massive carton of 24 Costco-brand pasture-raised eggs. While eggs can be more expensive these days, Costco usually offers great deals on them and sells them in bulk. Eggs are famous for their high amount of protein and versatility, as they can be incorporated into meals throughout the day.

"Make a three-egg omelet for 21 grams of protein," suggests Lauren.

You can also enjoy hard-boiled eggs as a protein-packed snack or add boiled eggs to other savory dishes to increase your protein intake throughout the day.

2. 0% Milk Fat Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is one of the most popular foods in the health community, as it's creamy, filling, and has a high amount of protein. It's also highly versatile and can be used in many recipes, from smoothies to savory snack dips. Costco has 48-ounce containers of the Fage 0% Milk Fat Greek Yogurt, which Lauren picks out in her video.

"Have 3/4 cup of this Greek yogurt for 18 grams of protein for only 90 calories, by the way," says Lauren.

She also suggests using a serving of Greek yogurt as a base for a delicious breakfast or dessert parfait.

3. Caramelized Onion & Aged White Cheddar Patties

Love the satisfying feeling of eating some kind of burger but worry about the amount of calories you're eating? Lauren recommends picking out a box of the Amylu brand Caramelized Onion & Aged White Cheddar Chicken Burger patties. The flavorful patties have a satisfying savory flavor and contain 19 grams of protein.

The patties can be eaten on their own with some side dishes or used to make a lower-calorie version of a cheeseburger with a lettuce wrap or low-calorie bun, low-fat cheese, and other yummy burger toppings.

4. Chicken Breasts

Costco sells a large variety of lean meats in different sizes, amounts, and packaging. Lauren recommends grabbing a pack of chicken breasts the next time you're at the large grocery store, as you can often purchase large amounts at a time to have on hand.

Lauren notes that just three ounces of chicken breast contains 26 grams of protein. You can make many low-calorie meals with chicken breast, from a low-fat chicken salad for lettuce wraps to a chicken and vegetable stir-fry. If you buy in bulk, just be sure to freeze the portions you won't be cooking or eating right away!

5. Organic Ground Turkey

Ground turkey is another great healthy ingredient for those who like to experiment with various recipes in the kitchen. In her video, Lauren chooses a 1.5-pound package of organic ground turkey from Costco that's 93% lean and 7% fat. She suggests cooking four ounces of ground turkey in a skillet and using it in meals throughout the week, as that serving contains a whopping 30 grams of protein.

Ground turkey can be thrown into several quick, low-calorie meals or used for fun recipes like turkey meatballs and burger patties.

6. Salmon Fillets

Salmon is another super popular food and is often considered the 'king' of healthy types of fish. Salmon is loaded with nutrients, including high amounts of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, which can help you lose weight and are also great for your brain health and longevity.

In her video, Lauren picks up a pack of six portioned salmon fillets from Costco and mentions that four ounces of salmon contains 23 grams of protein, which can keep you full longer than other sources. She "highly recommends" purchasing more salmon for impactful weight loss results.

7. Grilled Mediterranean-Style Chicken Skewers

Want a healthy item to eat at a summer or springtime barbecue? Lauren suggests grabbing a package of the West End Cuisine Grilled Mediterranean-Style Chicken Skewers next time you're at Costco. They make a great, low-calorie option for parties where less healthy foods like hamburgers and hotdogs are being served.

Laura says the skewers make a "fun" meal when you top them with a serving of barbecue sauce. Each serving of the skewers contains 24 grams of protein, and they are pre-cooked with extra-virgin olive oil.

8. Starbucks Sous Vide Egg Bites

One of the most beloved items on the Starbucks menu is its egg bites, which come in a variety of savory, delicious flavors. Fortunately, you don't have to drive to a Starbucks location anytime you want them, as Costco sells packages of them that you can quickly heat up in the microwave.

In her video, Lauren picks up a package of the Uncured Bacon & Gruyere egg bites containing five servings. Each serving of the egg bites includes 17 grams of protein, making for a super decadent snack or breakfast.
