When it comes to grocery shopping for nut butter, not all jars are created equal—especially if your goal is weight loss. Certified health coach Hunter recently took to Costco to share his go-to picks and the ones you should avoid at all costs.

“I’m at Costco, and I wanna show you the most unhealthy and healthiest nut butter to buy,” he begins.

Worst Nut Butter: Skippy

Hunter admits he relied on Skippy for 20 years, but now it’s at the top of his “do not buy” list.

“They have the creamy and they have the chunky one behind me. This is the worst possible option here,” he says. “Skippy’s full of non-organic peanuts, sugar—which is all refined sugar—and hydrogenated vegetable oils, which is cottonseed, soybean, or rapeseed oil. Now, that is pretty alarming to me because that’s so unnecessary and it’s awful for our body, our skin, and our gut health.”

Best Nut Butter: Costco Kirkland Organic Peanut Butter

If you want the cleanest option, Hunter says Costco’s own brand nails it.

“I’m so thankful that Costco makes their own organic peanut butter made with just organic Valencia peanuts and salt. This is the perfect nut butter that you want to buy at Costco.”

Other Top Picks

Hunter’s healthy recommendations don’t stop at peanut butter.

“Costco also has two other organic nut butters that I’m obsessed with,” he explains. “They have this one by Nuttzo that uses superfoods and real ingredients. And they also have their own organic almond butter that’s made with just organic almonds.”

The bottom line

Skip the sugar- and oil-filled jars and choose nut butters with the shortest ingredient lists possible.

“Ditch the Skippy and the other junk nut butters and go for these to eat clean and feel good,” says Hunter.
