Beyoncé has continued to draw fans from all over the world to her Cowboy Carter tour, which has officially arrived in Europe. However, when she was in Paris on Juneteenth, the singer made the choice to wear a particularly controversial shirt, and now she’s catching heat from fans. Keep reading for more information.

Beyoncé’s Controversial T-Shirt

The t-shirt in question featured images of the Buffalo Soldiers, who, in United States history, belong to Black US Army units active during the late 1800s and early 1900s. On the back, there was very lengthy text containing a description of the soldiers, including a section that said, “their antagonists were the enemies of peace, order and settlement: warring Indians, bandits, cattle thieves, murderous gunmen, bootleggers, trespassers, and Mexican revolutionaries.”

Many users online have slammed the “This Ain’t Texas” singer for anti-indigenous commentary and for framing Native Americans and Mexican revolutionaries as enemies, rather than victims of American imperialism. Images of Beyoncé wearing and performing in the shirt are also featured on her website, so there’s no doubt this was a deliberate message.

Social Media Reactions

Across social media platforms, fans are expressing their anger and disappointment in the mother-of-three. "There are many other opportunities for her to reflect her pride in her people but pride aimed at the expense of others isn't pride," one person wrote on TikTok.

"That Cowboy Carter album got her feeling all kinds of patriotic in all the wrong ways," another said on X.

"She needs to be humbled," agreed a third person. "She's so ignorant."

"Beyoncé's understanding of history is so revisionist it comes off as fiction," another user commented.

"Yet another instance of Beyoncé being incredibly tone deaf," a fifth person wrote. "Disgusting."

"The way that she proudly stood up there and performed in a shirt that's incredibly offensive," a final user posted. "What is wrong with her?"
