Makeup can be a powerful tool for enhancing your features at any age, but as your skin changes over time, so should your makeup techniques—especially when it comes to blush. After 40, the wrong blush color, formula, or placement can unintentionally add years to your appearance. What once gave you a youthful glow might now settle into fine lines or drag your features downward. Knowing how to choose and apply blush correctly can lift your face, brighten your complexion, and help you look more radiant and refreshed.
Erica Taylor, a makeup artist & educator for over 25 years, shared the simple blush mistake that is “dated” and making you look “plain crazy.” Read on to learn more!
Using a big blush brush might seem like a time-saver, but it can actually age your face if you’re over 40. Larger brushes tend to apply blush too broadly, which can drag the face down instead of giving it a lifted, youthful look.
Do: Erica recommends using a small brush and forming a peace sign shape on your face by imagining a line from the corner of your eye to the top of your ear. Apply the blush within that V-shaped area using the small brush for a more lifted, youthful look. “Blend this out, and you have a perfectly lifted blush application,” she says.
