Britney Spears Reveals She Will ‘Forever Be Traumatized’ By Her Conservatorship And Past: ‘There Is No Way to Fix Me’

Britney Spears just gave her Instagram account the ultimate send-off before deleting it. This included a teaser video promoting her new duet with Elton John, and a heart-rending, confessional post in which she reflected once again on the enduring pain caused by her 13-year conservatorship. In the latter upload last week, Spears, 40, shared a photo of a close-up pink rose, and detailed the trauma she continues to face almost a year after her conservatorship ended.

“Everybody’s life seems so perfect and when I post things I think most of the time I’ve been utterly and completely embarrassed of my past … and who can forget those documentaries???” she wrote in her caption, adding that highlighting her best moments on social media helps her heal. “So yes, I do try and post me looking my best or what it may seem to be the good life.”

The “Gimme More” hitmaker continued, writing, “Well the truth is, my spirits are better but I will forever be traumatized by my past experience for life.” She went on, “There is no way to fix me, my emotions and my sensitivity … therapy, all of it !!! I think I will need some sort of miracle for my emotions.”

The iconic pop star then told fans that she still often cries herself to sleep, and has days where she feels insecure. However, Spears never gave up hope despite this, and said that using the word “more” helped her develop a more positive mindset. “I’ve never had seconds at the dinner table,” she revealed, “I WANT MORE lately … It’s called MORE and maybe MORE isn’t so bad … and opening to MORE and the DOOR.”

As some fans shared on Twitter that the post “broke” their hearts, others expressed that seeing Spears “able to be more open” and speak freely for herself is “still such a positive thing,” especially when thinking of the restrictive conservatorship she had to live through. In November of 2021, a Los Angeles judge made headlines after finally ending the “Circus” singer’s conservatorship.

As fans will recall, her father Jamie Spears, 70, was one of her conservators, controlling everything from her finances to her own personal life and health decisions. The controversial figure was also the subject of countless online debates after reportedly preventing Spears from removing a birth control device after she said she wanted to start a family. Her attorney has vowed to investigate these and other alleged wrongdoings that were possible from the conservatorship set-up.

Since being freed from the conservatorship (and pleasing the #FreeBritney movement in the process), Spears married her longtime boyfriend, actor Sam Asghari, 28, and is now returning to the music world once more. Her latest release, “Hold Me Closer,” is a collaborative reworking of Elton John’s 1972 classic “Tiny Dancer,” and will feature verses from both musicians.

John has shared a sweet IG post containing side-by-side childhood shots of himself and Spears, as well as a snippet of the new track that hears the two singing together. The full song will officially debut on Friday, August 26th and we— along with Spears’ and John’s many fans— can’t wait!
