In a direct copycat move, Burger King is changing the price of its Whopper in honor of the popular burger’s birthday, after McDonald’s did the exact same thing with the McMuffin earlier this fall. The rivalry rages on!

The Miami-based chain just announced that it will be selling the Whopper for just 37 cents for a limited time in honor of the the 64 years its been on the menu.

Yesterday and today, BK will offer the sandwich for just thirty four cents for the “two-day birthday bash.” Like the McDonald’s promotion, this one will only be offered to customers who are in the chain’s new royalty program, called Royal Perks, and use the app to order (aka, they get your email sign-up in exchange–that part hardly seems worth it to me).

"In 1957, Burger King changed the game with the introduction of the Whopper sandwich – an iconic, flame-grilled burger prepared YOUR way (with 1,024 potential combinations, to be exact)," head of marketing communications Zahra Nurani said in a statement about the deal. "And now, 64 years later, we’re excited to celebrate our beloved burger by offering The Whopper for its original price of 37 cents exclusively to Royal Perks members."

The signature hamburger was introduced back in 1957, and has been a menu staple and bestselling item for the restaurant. Made with 3/4 lb of "savory flame-grilled beef topped with juicy tomatoes, fresh lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, ketchup, crunchy pickles," the Whopper typically costs diners around $5.99 (depending on what market they live in).

Bk credit the flame-broiling method of cooking for giving the burger a smoky flavor that sets it apart from competitors'. So--will you be taking them up on the offer this weekend?
