Your iPhone is only as good as its battery. And, for some users, that means it runs effectively for a few hours — tops — before they find themselves high-tailing it to the nearest charger. If that sounds like your situation, remember: it may not be your phone or even its battery that are the cause of this slow-down. Instead, the settings on your phone could be to blame for your device not holding a charge for as long as it should. Tech Expert Goran Luledzija, CEO of Localizely, shares three settings that you should change immediately for a longer-lasting iPhone battery. And the best news of all? These changes won’t affect your overall user experience, but can provide you hours more battery power.

Screen Brightness

One of the number one killers of your iPhone battery, simply lowering the screen’s brightness can be the one adjustment that takes seconds to do and makes a world of difference. “A bright screen is a thirsty one and drinks up your battery life,” Luledzija says. “The fix? Dial it down a notch. Head over to Settings > Display & Brightness and slide to a lower brightness level. Doing so means less power for the screen and more juice in your battery.”

Background App Refresh

“Next, we’ve got Background App Refresh,” Luledzija notes. “This feature lets apps update even when they’re chilling in the background, which is not cool for your battery. To rein it in, visit Settings > General > Background App Refresh and toggle off for the apps you can live without updating round-the-clock. This simple action will take some load off your battery and make it last longer.”

Dynamic Backgrounds

Dynamic Backgrounds  are fun to watch and look cool, Luledzija admits, but they’re also a bit of a drain on your battery because of their constant motion. To make the switch, Luledzija suggests going to Settings > Wallpaper > Choose a New Wallpaper and picking a static one. “Less work for the graphics processor means more battery life for you,” he says.

Push Email

Push Email is another battery-killing culprit. “Your iPhone loves to keep you in the loop with emails, but it's a bit of a power hog,” Luledzija says. “Changing this is easy. Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data, and opt for Fetch. By doing so, your iPhone will be less of a busybody about your emails, preserving your battery.”

Location Services

Finally, there's Location Services — which is usually called out for its privacy concerns, but is also a well-known battery leach. “It's handy, but it means your iPhone is frequently using GPS, a big battery guzzler,” Luledzija says. “To manage this, head to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and adjust to your liking. Cutting back on GPS use is like giving your battery a bonus.

So, in a nutshell, a few changes in your settings can make your iPhone battery last longer. The key is understanding what tasks are heavy on the battery and adjusting accordingly. Trust me, your battery will be grateful!”
