Channing Tatum has long been known for his muscular and athletic build, but he’s officially changed things up and dramatically slimmed down for a new film role.
The famous actor recently revealed he lost a whopping 70 pounds to prepare for his new film, Roofman, and that he dropped weight at such a rapid pace that it ended up “concerning” members of the film crew. The actor described the experience of losing so much weight at once, and explained how it wasn’t a fun experience, and actually was one he won’t look back at fondly. Channing Tatum Reveals He Lost 70 Pounds For A New Film Role
This fall, fans will be able to see the 21 Jump Street performer star in Roofman, a new drama and crime-themed film based on the true story of Jeffrey Manchester, a man who broke free from prison and ended up living within the walls of a Toys R Us store. The famous thief had a much different body type from Channing's, as the actor is known for being a buff heartthrob.
So, in order to prepare for the film, Channing recently told Variety in an interview that he lost a whopping 70 pounds.
"He's not as big-boned as me," explained the actor, who described the criminal as a "really thin guy." Ironically, the 45-year-old had just finished bulking up for another role and had hit 240 pounds, so he knew he had to drop more in order to look more like Jeffrey. However, once he started losing weight, it was like he couldn't stop.
"Once I was already going, it's just the days of shooting, it just kept coming off, and I got down to like 172," he explained.
The movie's Derek Cianfrance also told the publication that the film crew began to worry about Channing and his health, stating, "Our assistant director, Mary Ellis, she was concerned."

Channing Describes His Drastic Weight Loss As 'Sad' In An Interview
While speaking with Variety, the dad of one began describing his weight loss experience in a way that's a little less common for actors. Although some open up about how hard it can be, Channing became vulnerable with the publication and admitted that it was a rather 'sad' and 'lonely' experience, due to the nature of the character and the life he was studying.
He recalled feeling "sadness" and "emptiness," noting, "I just see myself and I would just seem hollow and the movie...for me was a lot of, like, loneliness."
"A real meditation for that and wanting to be full and trying to, like, fill an empty vessel," he continued. "That empty feeling sucks after a while."
Now that the film is over and ready to premiere in October, the Dear John heartthrob was able to get back to his normal lifestyle, able to escape the negative feelings and drastic weight loss. Thank goodness!
