It’s probably a sad time now for frozen dessert lovers, as popular ice cream brand Klondike has recently announced that their iconic Choco Taco is being pulled for good.
According to their company website, “The Klondike Choco Taco has unfortunately been discontinued in both 1ct and 4ct pack sizes. Over the past 2 years, we have experienced an unprecedented spike in demand across our portfolio and have had to make very tough decisions to ensure availability of our full portfolio nationwide. A necessary but unfortunate part of this process is that we sometimes must discontinue products, even a beloved item like Choco Taco.”
They concluded, “We know this may be very disappointing. We hope you’ll try our other delicious frozen treats, including Klondike Cones, Shakes, Sandwiches, and of course, our signature Bar available nationwide.”
Additionally, the company took to social media to issue an official statement. In a recent Instagram post, the brand amusingly shared a photo of a Choco Taco at what appears to be a press conference. The caption wrote, “I want to address the rumors: I’m really being discontinued, it’s not a PR stunt. I knew you loved me, but not THIS much. While I reflect on this outpouring of support, we are discussing next steps, including what to do with the last 912 (we counted) tacos at HQ. Stay tuned.”

As expected, the internet had a lot to say about the discontinuation. One user shared that they were “So sad” while another referred to the popular dessert as their “childhood favorite.” As a matter of fact, one commented that it’s the “worst business decision for an ice cream company.” Yikes!
“I bought a whole gas station supply last night because of this,” mentioned a fan.
“Wake me up when the nightmare is over,” said another.
The Choco Taco was invented in Philly around 1984 and eventually became a one-of-a-kind dessert that people have come to love. According to a 2016 article published by Eater, Choco Taco inventor Alan Drazen noted, “When you eat a sugar cone, you generally eat the nuts, chocolate, and ice cream on the top, and then when you get to the cone, you’re [only] eating ice cream and cone. With the Choco Taco you’re getting the ice cream, cone, nuts, and chocolate with just about every bite.”
We definitely hope the Choco Taco will make a comeback in the future. For now, it will surely be missed!
