Around this time of year, it’s hard to resist all of the famous festive Christmas cookies, cakes, and treats that get handed out. However, with this recipe, you might not have to.
One of the most popular treats around this time of year is the Little Debbie Christmas Tree cakes, which might be delicious, but are a surefire way to lose track of your weight loss or health journey, given they’re high in calories and loaded with sugar. However, a weight loss content creator who lost 250 pounds, Samantha Milton, is sharing her ‘dupe’ recipe for a “high protein” recipe of the festive cakes, and fans are calling them “delicious.” Read more about how she makes them below.
Samantha Milton Shares The Base For Her ‘High Protein’ Christmas Tree Cakes
To begin making her cakes, the content creator uses a famous cake mix hack, using a box of Betty Crocker white cake mix and Sprite Zero. However, she adds another element that makes her cakes higher in protein, so eating one can help keep you fuller for longer.
In her video, she starts by mixing one cup of the white cake mix with four scoops of cake batter flavored protein powder and one and 1/3rd cup of Sprite Zero, until she has a cake batter consistency. She then grabs a baking sheet and lines it with wax paper before pouring the batter onto the sheet and spreading it out evenly, before popping it into a 350°F oven for seven minutes.
Once her cake layer is cooked through, she takes it out of the oven and lets it cool before peeling the wax paper off.
Sam Makes Frosting & Assembles Her Christmas Tree Cakes
As soon as her cake layer is cooled, the content creator begins cutting out small Christmas tree shapes with a knife. You could also use a cookie cutter for this step! Once she makes as many trees as possible, getting enough cakes to craft seven trees, she begins crafting her frosting.
In a bowl, she mixes four tablespoons of whipped cream cheese with four tablespoons of plain non-fat Greek yogurt, one and one-half tablespoons of white chocolate Jello pudding mix, one-third cup of confectioner sugar replacement, and a few tablespoons of milk until she gets a thick frosting consistency. Once it's mixed, she adds the frosting to a ziplock bag for piping.
Next, she assembles the cakes! She takes one cake, pipes icing onto it, then sandwiches it with another cake on top, before neatly piping more icing onto the top cake. She then tops her cake with some decorative red frosting and a few festive sprinkles. Then, that's it. Each cake has around 150 calories and 13 grams of protein, and Sam's followers commented that "they're so cute!"
