Calcium is an essential mineral that supports strong bones, muscle function, nerve signaling, and even skin and hair health. Yet many people unknowingly suffer from calcium deficiency, especially if their diet lacks calcium-rich foods or if absorption is impaired.

According to holistic pharmacist Ariana Medizade, these are the six ‘most common’ signs your body may be running low on calcium—and they’re worth paying attention to.

1. Muscle Cramps

Frequent or unexplained muscle cramps, especially in the legs, may be an early sign of calcium deficiency. Calcium plays a crucial role in muscle contraction, and low levels can cause painful spasms.

2. Numbness and Tingling

A lack of calcium can affect the nervous system, leading to sensations of numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or face. This symptom can feel similar to pins and needles and often comes and goes.

3. Fatigue

Feeling persistently tired or low-energy, even after adequate sleep, can signal a calcium imbalance. Calcium supports energy production at the cellular level, and a deficiency may leave you feeling chronically drained.

4. Brittle Bones and Nails

Weak bones that fracture easily—or nails that split or break often—can indicate calcium deficiency. The mineral is essential for maintaining bone density and structural integrity.

5. Hair Loss
