Donald and Melania Trump made headlines last week when they attended the Washington, D.C., premiere of her documentary, Melania.
For the occasion, the mother of one leaned into her signature style, opting for a sleek skirt suit from Dolce & Gabbana. She wore an all-black ensemble featuring a skirt that fell just above her ankles, paired with a tweed collared top detailed with subtle buttons down the front and cinched at the waist with a slim belt.
She completed the look with black pumps and wore her honey-blonde hair down. Donald Trump, meanwhile, wore a navy suit paired with a purple satin tie.
Donald And Melania Trump Look Like 'Wax Figures'
The couple held hands as they posed for photos, but online reactions quickly took an unexpected turn. Many viewers initially thought the pair looked like wax figures, with Melania’s stiff poses drawing particular attention.
“Literally thought this was Madame Tussaud’s,” said one person on Instagram. Another wrote, “I thought these were wax figures.” Someone else joked, “DT & Melania or Cake?” while another added, “Looks like both are about to malfunction.”
Speaking to reporters about the documentary, the First Lady said, “You will see humor, you will see grief, you will see fashion,” adding that the public will learn “what it takes from going from private citizen to first lady again.”
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. also weighed in at the event, telling outlets, “I think Melania has been largely misunderstood by the public. I have nothing but admiration for her. She’s been nothing but kind to me and to my wife since we moved to Washington, particularly to [his wife] Cheryl [Hines]. I think the press has portrayed her as a one dimensional character and that’s not who she is.”

Melania Trump's Documentary Garners Mixed Reviews
The documentary has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some moviegoers claimed theaters were nearly empty, while other sources reported sold-out screenings, with a few noting that only a handful of tickets were sold at certain locations.
Despite the online chatter, industry sources are looking at actual numbers and scores. Critics largely panned the film as a “stage-managed infomercial,” yet it still achieved a strong opening weekend for a political documentary, grossing roughly $7M to $9.5M, according to Deadline and Wikipedia. Audiences, however, responded positively, giving the film a 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Reports also noted that Melania performed particularly well in conservative strongholds such as Texas and Florida. Industry analysts viewed it as more of a “political investment” by Amazon MGM than a traditional for-profit venture.
While the opening weekend numbers were solid, reports indicate that the film cost $40M to produce, putting its revenue far below production costs.
Fans on Reddit took to a thread to share their thoughts on the film’s performance and why Amazon would invest in a project like this during a politically tense period.
One user asked, “How can the film be deemed a hit with such a large amount of money spent on it? 7M is not a good opening,” to which another replied, “It's not about the money for them. This was just a passion project for Melania that she got for free now.”
Others weighed in with their opinions on the movie itself. “I saw the movie. Wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Glad that I saw it but I wouldn't rewatch or recommend it to a friend,” said one user. Another added, “it wasn’t a success lol this movie is really revealing which entertainment trades are willing to appease the administration.”
