Donald Trump Moves Barack Obama's Portrait To Off-Limits Stairwell
According to White House tradition, the two most recent presidential portraits should hang on either side of the Grand Foyer for the public to view during tours and events. President Joe Biden's White House portrait isn't finished yet, so the two most recent portraits are of Barack Obama and George W. Bush.
In April, Trump switched Obama's portrait with a painting of himself from his assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, and moved Obama's portrait across the Grand Foyer to where Bush's portrait hung. He moved Bush's painting to a different part of the White House to hang next to his late father, George H.W. Bush. Now, he's moved Obama's painting again, to the stairwell of the Grand Staircase.
The staircase leads to the president's private living area, which is off-limits from visitors and obstructed from public view. Trump moved Obama's painting to the top corner of the staircase, so visitors cannot see it at all.
Social Media Reactions
Pretty much all of social media is in agreement that this is an incredibly petty move, and called him out for it on social media. "Changing location of President Obama's portrait in the White House will not change the fact that President Obama will ALWAYS be a better man," one person wrote in a comment on Instagram. "ALWAYS."
"He’s obsessed with Obama," another person pointed out. "It’s very sad and weird!"
"Never seen someone try so hard to get at someone who openly couldn’t care less!" another said.
"This is what tells you everything you need to know about this person," agreed a fourth user.
"He acts like a child," one person said. "This is something a jealous toddler would do."
"A small, insecure man with poor self-confidence would do just that," a final user wrote."
