It’s no secret that Donald Trump has been doing and saying things that some presidents have never done before, and in some more recent cases, numerous Americans are not okay with it.

Similar to other cities in the country, the President wanted to deploy members of the National Guard in the city of Chicago, and around the same time, made bold statements threatening to arrest the city’s democratic mayor. The news is part of a string of deployments he’s made, sending armed National Guard soldiers to walk the streets of various cities, many of them under Democratic leaders, in light of the recent protests against his immigration policies and ICE raids. While judges are working to block his orders, the internet has been expressing its disappointment on social media. Read more about the situation below.

Donald Trump Pushes To Deploy The National Guard To Chicago Following ICE Raid Protests

It's no secret that there's been a lot of tension in major cities across the country as the President's immigration policies have begun settling into place, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been cracking down on raids, making arrests, and taking people into custody in large numbers.

Numerous politicians, influential figures, and American citizens have been speaking out against the latest immigration raids, with many worried they're not being carried out properly, as well as concerned about the cruel treatment of those detained as they're separated from their families. Since the raids have gotten more intense and widespread across the country during the summertime, more Americans have expressed outrage, and massive protests have begun breaking out in numerous states.

In an attempt to take control of these protests and shut them down, Donald Trump has begun deploying and attempting to deploy the National Guard in major cities, many of which have Democratic mayors or governors. While they're currently deployed in Washington, DC, and Memphis, the President made headlines as he attempted to deploy them in Chicago. Over the weekend, an appeals court ruled that troops sent to Illinois could stay there under federal control, but cannot be deployed until it hears further arguments.

Trump Threatens To Arrest The Mayor Of Chicago As People Slam Him On Social Media

In addition to the legal drama involving the potential deployment of the National Guard in Chicago, the President has also gone as far as to threaten the city's Democratic mayor, Brandon Johnson, as well as the Illinois Governor, JB Pritzker, who have been vocally against the idea and the recent crackdown on ICE raids.

Despite neither of the political leaders having a criminal record, in a recent Truth Social post, the President's personal social media network, he wrote, "Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect ICE Officers! Governor Pritzker also!"

In addition to the 79-year-old's direct post, the White House spokesperson, Abigail Jackson, spoke on his behalf, stating, "JB Pritzker and Brandon Johnson have blood on their hands," as reported by NBC News.

Internet users have been speaking out against the deployment of the National Guard more and more on social media over the last week, as some citizens approve of it, others are worried it's another indicator of Trump "abusing" his power.

"America no longer has a democracy," wrote an Instagram user. "It's under an authoritarian power, soon to be a full dictatorship."

One user wrote they were "so shocked, embarrassed, and ashamed of this administration for using our military against ourselves," as another added they felt it was "a waste of money and resources."

"This is unconstitutional," wrote one user.

We'll be watching closely to see what happens within Illinois courts over the next week and if indeed, troops are deployed to the major city as Americans continue to reel over the news online.
