If you have been relatively active on social media over the last few years and dabble in health content, there’s a good chance you may have been seeing people talking about how they drink bone broth or encouraging you to drink bone broth. Well, it turns out they’re doing it for a valid reason.

Drinking bone broth has been around for centuries, but it’s become an even more notable health and lifestyle trend in the last decade, with celebrities boasting about their bone broth recipe or how they keep their fridges stocked with it. As it turns out, consuming bone broth on a regular basis can add some great health benefits, and if you have the resources to make it at home or buy a good brand, you may find it helps various aspects of your health.

To get the inside scoop on why drinking bone broth daily is good for you, we spoke with Registered Dietitian Jennifer Pallian about what may happen to your body if you drink bone broth every day for two weeks, and how to select a bone broth from the store. Read more about it below.

You May Feel Less Hungry And Experience Less Cravings

If you struggle with overeating and crave different kinds of food throughout the day, you're not alone. Many people have the same issue, and as they try to eat a balanced, healthy diet, they sometimes hinder their progress due to consistent cravings and feelings of hunger, even if they just ate.

Pallian notes that when you consistently drink high-quality bone broth, you may find that your hunger cues and cravings subside, which is due to the high amounts of protein in every serving.

"After two weeks of drinking bone broth regularly, you may feel less hungry and have fewer cravings, while still feeling full and satisfied after eating," she explained. "In a clinical trial using the Bone Broth Diet (BBD), participants experienced these effects during each three-week phase, suggesting that changes begin within the first two weeks."

Bone broth is known for being high in collagen, which, if you didn't know, is a form of protein. This is why, in addition to increasing satiety and influencing "appetite-related hormones," you may notice positive differences in your skin. These include better hydration and more elasticity. Those are two pretty cool benefits from just one thing found in bone broth.

You May Feel Improvements In Your Energy Levels

While bone broth is often referred to when talking about beauty benefits, some health and lifestyle gurus tend to forget about the fascinating things it can do for your energy levels. If you have a hard time keeping your energy up throughout the day, instead of reaching for yet another cup of coffee, consider warming up a mug of bone broth to mix things up and experience more lasting effects.

"Improvements in energy and exercise performance may occur due to compounds in chicken broth, such as carnosine, an anti-inflammatory dipeptide, and anserine, a derivative of carnosine, which have been linked to better muscle function and reduced fatigue in exercise studies," notes Pallian.

There are a lot of minerals and amino acids in a simple cup of good bone broth, which is why it's a highlighted savory beverage in the wellness community. If you're tired of having the same protein shake before and after workouts, go for bone broth instead and see how you feel in the gym. It's also a nice, warm alternative to cold shakes in the wintertime.

When purchasing a bone broth at the grocery store, Pallian suggests looking for packages with short ingredient lists,  and ideally ones that only contain bones, not meat, and water, with some natural veggies and herbs for flavor. If you're making it at home and can afford the supplies, look for organic or grass-fed bones to create your broth, to avoid any unnecessary ingredients or contaminants.

"When refrigerated, good bone broth should have a gel-like consistency, indicating a high collagen content," Pallian adds. Good luck!
