Some colas contain as much as almost 40 grams of sugar, without a single vitamin or nutrient to give back in return for all of that sugar. In a nutshell, sugar is one of the worst ingredients you can eat if you’re trying to take care of your skin – it breaks down the very collagen that you need to keep your complexion looking youthful.


To boot, the caffeine in many sodas can keep you awake at night, and a lack of sleep is associated with aging skin.

Soda may be an obvious culprit when it comes to sugary foods that can mess with your skin, but be aware of more under-the-radar beverages like alcoholic cocktails. Depending on the mixers used (which often consist of juice and soda), you could be adding a ton of sugar to your diet — again, without any nutritional benefits in return.

Cutting sugar, wearing sunscreen, avoiding the sun, and getting enough sleep are all lifestyle changes that will have enormous benefits on your skin. And if you are trying to fill your diet with more skin-happy foods and ingredients, try salmon, walnuts, avocados, and chia seeds — their omega fatty acids are excellent for skin and health.
