4 ‘Genius’ Makeup Tips That Only Take 5 Minutes, According To A Pro

When it comes to fast, effective makeup that flatters mature skin, beauty content creator Elena Rachitskaya has it down to a science. In one of her most recent videos, she shares four “genius” beauty hacks that not only save time but also work beautifully on women over 40—particularly those dealing with fine lines, creasing, or dullness.

Whether you’re struggling with foundation oxidation or eyeliner that doesn’t sit well on textured lids, Rachitskaya offers surprisingly simple solutions—with thoughtful explanations that make them easy to follow.

1. Foundation That Won’t Oxidize (Or Age You)

Elena compares two different formulas: her favorite Lat Match on one side and the cult-favorite Estée Lauder Double Wear on the other. “After just four minutes, you’ll notice the shade of foundation can change due to oxidation,” she warns. Her tip? “Buy this foundation one shade lighter than your skin tone,” noting that if it’s still too dark, you can repurpose it as a concealer to neutralize dark under-eye veins.

She also stresses application technique: “Use pressing motions, not rubbing. Don’t go over the same spot five times.” And instead of applying foundation straight to your brush (which can overload it), she suggests dabbing from the back of your hand for more control.

2. Instant Lip Lift with Highlighter

Fine lines around the lips? There’s a trick for that. “Start by applying highlighter with small shiny particles along the lip contour,” Elena advises. This fills in lip texture and makes liner glide more easily. She demonstrates with a bold red pencil to show the smoothing effect—and then cleverly uses the same product as blush. “If it feels like too much color, calm it down with a brush that has a bit of excess foundation.”

3. Perfect Eyeliner on Textured or Aging Lids

A common challenge for mature eyes is creased or dry eyelids, which make eyeliner tricky. Elena’s fix? “Mix your eyeliner with a teeny drop of eye cream or serum,” she says. This hydrates the formula, making it glide smoothly. She also recommends placing a light shade in the inner corner to “brighten and open up the eyes,” followed by a darker tone at the outer corner for lift.

Her eyeliner tip for deep-set eyes is pure gold: “Forget about the tip. Start the line from the middle of the wing… Keep your eyebrows relaxed and look straight ahead in the mirror.” By turning the brush sideways instead of following the lower lash line, you avoid a droopy finish.

4. Revive Old Eyeshadows with Setting Spray

Have old eyeshadows that feel too chalky or bold? Don’t toss them. Elena suggests spraying setting spray directly into the pan until you get a “soft paste” texture. The result? A versatile cream product that can be used as eyeshadow, blush, liner, or even highlighter. “Dry freckles strokes, brow-like hair strokes,” she notes—showing just how multifunctional your makeup can be with one little tweak.

“These tricks take just five minutes,” Elena promises, proving that looking radiant over 40 doesn’t have to mean spending hours in front of the mirror. Her refreshing, no-fuss approach offers women real, usable techniques for embracing beauty at every age.
