The more protein you can get out of your food, the better! Protein is needed to help support a healthy and functioning metabolism, which is needed to burn calories efficiently for weight loss. Plus, a protein-packed meal will help curb cravings later because it keeps you feeling fuller for longer.

Not sure which high-protein foods you should be eating to lose belly fat? Fitness experts say there’s one food, in particular, that should be had every day to ensure fast and healthy weight loss–it’s salmon!

Salmon is one of the healthiest proteins you can have, especially if you're trying to lose weight. The fatty fish is low in calories and can actually help you feel full for many hours thanks to its high protein count.

In addition to being loaded with quality protein and fats, salmon is also a rich source of several metabolism-boosting nutrients, starting with iodine. Healthline notes that iodine is essential for a healthy metabolism and also assists with proper thyroid function. Studies show that most people may be iodine deficient, which could be contributing to stubborn belly fat.

Salmon is also loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to help reduce inflammation, which is known to play a major role in obesity and metabolic disease.

These omega-3s are also great for your skin, too! Research shows that omega-3s play an essential role in both the structure and appearance of the skin, giving it the ability to reduce the appearance of acne, wrinkles, and more!

Not sure how to incorporate salmon into your diet? Regina Fazzini, a New York-based nutritionist, says it's best to start off slow and add a serving to your meals twice a week.

"I always tell my patients to add salmon into recipes where you would normally use chicken," she says. "It goes great with whole grains and veggies and makes an excellent protein for salads."
