Is there anything sadder than getting hooked on the first season of a show just for it to be canceled before it gets a season 2? Unfortunately for Hulu subscribers, the streaming platform have been prematurely canceling shows left and right—including one that didn’t even premiere yet.
That’s right: Variety recently reported that Hulu has dropped the highly anticipated Devil in the White City. This announcement comes on the tail of cancelations of shows like Reboot and Kindred.

While a show getting canceled after one season is sad enough, there’s something truly devastating about a project that doesn’t get to see the light of day. That’s exactly what just happened with Hulu’s Devil in the White City, which was set to star Keanu Reeves.
Variety reported that this adaptation of Erik Larson’s 2003 novel of the same name was officially abandoned on March 6, 2023. Director Todd Field chose to exit the project and Reeves followed suit. Without these two, Hulu chose to drop the series altogether.
Fans of the book (and of Keanu) are understandably disappointed by the news. “Hopefully Netflix or Amazon will pick this up. It is an absolutely fascinating book,” one wrote in response to The Hollywood Reporter’s tweet on the matter.
