Kim Kardashian Posts Instagram Story Speaking Out Against The ICE Raids In California
Over the last week, numerous Americans have been expressing outrage at the intense number of arrests being made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Los Angeles, California.
While immigration-related raids and sieges have been increasing since President Donald J. Trump took office in January, as per his policies, Los Angeles saw significant numbers of people being arrested and taken into ICE custody over the last two weeks, leading to large protests in the city. The issue drew more citizen's attention after the president deployed the National Guard into the city, where protesters were met with tear gas and rubber bullets. The incident has caused both residents and other famous figures to speak out against the president, his immigration policies, and his reliance on the National Guard, which he's being sued for by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
On Tuesday, June 10th, Kim shared a lengthy message to her Instagram story, expressing how upset the ICE raids were making her.
"When we're told that ICE exists to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals—great," she wrote. "But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families, we have to speak up. We have to do what's right."
"Growing up in LA, I've seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city," she continued.
"They are our neighbors, friends, classmates, coworkers, and family. No matter where you fall politically, it's clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants."
The SKIMS founder then encouraged her followers not to "turn a blind eye" to what was happening and stated that there "has to be a better way" to handle the situation regarding undocumented immigrants in the United States.
The Internet Slams Kim For Her 'Disingenuous' Statement On Social Media
While the mom of four tends to stay fairly tight-lipped on where she stands politically, she's sent fans and other internet users mixed messages over the years. Though she's been outspoken about social justice issues like prison reform and wanting to practice law related to criminal justice, she's also shown subtle support for the Trump family over the years, which internet users think could be related to her friendship with Ivanka.
The two have reportedly been friends for around a decade, being photographed spending time with each other at the Met Gala and posting sincere messages about her on social media. In 2023, Kim called Ivanka "the sweetest soul" for her birthday and posted an Instagram story photo of them with their daughters. She gave the president's daughter another birthday shoutout the following year, sharing a side-by-side selfie and writing there was "no one sweeter" than her.
Although she didn't say who she voted for in the previous election, eyebrows were raised when the KKW Beauty mogul posted a photo of Melania Trump in her inauguration day outfit earlier this year, leading many to believe that it was a subtle way of saying she supports the current president, maddening those who read her recent statement about ICE.
When Kim's ICE-related story spread on social media, internet users gave her a piece of their mind, upset that she would post such a thing while allegedly maintaining close ties to the Trump family.
