Jennifer Aniston To Star In A Series Adaptation Of 'I'm Glad My Mom Died'
In August 2022, iCarly star Jennette McCurdy shocked her fanbase and other literature enthusiasts when she released her first memoir, I'm Glad My Mom Died, which detailed the horrible child abuse she suffered at the hands of her mom, Debra, before she passed away due to cancer in 2013. In the tough read, Jennette shares details of how her mom forced her into unhealthy habits in order to look a certain way and book gigs as a child actress. Unfortunately, their complicated relationship remained the same until she died.
The book was highly successful, receiving rave reviews and becoming a bestseller. Therefore, it wasn't much of a surprise when it was announced that a limited series adaptation of the heartbreaking story was underway. Last week, it was revealed that not only would Jennifer Aniston be producing, but also starring in the adaptation for Apple TV+.
A casting announcement from Variety shared that Jennifer would be taking on the difficult and dark role of Jennette's late mother, and that the series is expected to be 10 episodes long.
Fans React To Jennifer's Casting Announcement On Social Media
Once the news of the 56-year-old's career update was shared on social media, fans of hers and the hit memoir began sharing numerous comments about how excited yet anxious they were, acknowledging the heavy material included in the book.
Some hardcore fans of Jennifer's felt that the role may hit differently than some of her others, as she reportedly had a complex and estranged relationship with her mother, Nancy Dow, who, at the peak of her daughter's career, released an exploitative memoir that explained their challenging history.
On Instagram, fans and pop culture enthusiasts took to the comments section of several posts related to the casting to share their thoughts, feelings, and excitement.
"This is gonna be good," wrote one fan, as another added that they were "so excited."
"Love Jennifer in these serious roles!" commented a fan who acknowledged her past with more comedic, light-hearted performances.
"She's about to show off."
A fan of Jennifer and Jenette's who read the book addressed its subject matter, writing, "That was actually a really tough book to listen to, extremely eye-opening...I think Jennifer will do a great job."
"This is genius," added another.
There are many more details to learn about the upcoming and highly anticipated adaptation, but for now, we do know that Jenette is helping to write it, so it'll truly be based on a true story. We're anxious to see what Jennifer brings to the role, and how hard this collaboration will hit.
