If you’ve been following Jennifer Lawrence’s street style lately, you’ve probably noticed she’s been taking bold fashion risks—and fans have had plenty to say about her experimental looks. But despite the mixed reactions, the actress isn’t backing down. In fact, she’s bringing that same daring energy to the red carpet.
On Monday, Dec. 1, the Hunger Games icon arrived at the 2025 Gotham Awards at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City wearing a dramatic twist on the classic skirt suit. As a Dior ambassador, she naturally opted for the fashion house, choosing a structured black blazer with full sleeves, a buttoned bodice, and a sharp V-neckline. She paired it with a high-slit skirt that featured an elegant, flowing train.

The 35-year-old completed the look with high-heel sandals, anklets, and delicate dangling earrings. Lawrence wore her blonde hair sleek and straight in a center part, complementing the outfit with soft, warm-toned glam.
While the overall look was chic, her fans thought she looked awkward and uncomfortable.
“Not great. Unflattering. Unbalanced. Actually looks unfinished,” wrote one fan on Reddit. Another said, “I looove the heels, the anklets, the train?? But the blazer looks so boring. Idk what her stylists are doing lately, but it’s been miss after miss.” A third noted, “That blazer could have been flattering if tailored more to her body.” A fourth commented, “It’s so weirdly undefined in spite of the structure around the shoulders. Also, all black from top to bottom isn’t helping.” A fifth said, “Last few years her style has totally gone down the drain. Not sure why.” Someone else quipped, “It looks like she went to the tailor to deal with that poorly fitting jacket, and as she stood on the pedestal, she stepped on the skirt and ripped a panel off and left it to dangle. The shoes seem to be the wrong size as well.”

Jennifer Lawrence Gets Candid on Postpartum Depression During Die My Love Premiere
Despite the fashion misstep, Lawrence had every reason to attend the event. She was nominated for Outstanding Lead Performance for her role in Die My Love, alongside Ethan Hawke, Jessie Buckley, Tessa Thompson, Rose Byrne, and Josh O’Connor.
Earlier this month, she spoke with PEOPLE on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of Die My Love on Saturday, Nov. 1. In the film, Lawrence plays a new mother grappling with the emotional and psychological weight of early parenthood—a role she says drew unexpectedly from her own experiences.
“I didn't really end up having really bad postpartum [anxiety] until my second [baby],” Lawrence shared, explaining that the experience gave her “another layer” of understanding as she approached the character.
“I mean, I don't think that you have to have kids to play a parent by any means,” she continued. “But having that information about what a tiny person needs and is looking for… just having that information was helpful.”
