ABC Extends Jimmy Kimmel's Late Night Talk Show Contract
After a buzzing and tumultuous year for the host and comedian, earlier this month, the famous television network ABC announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live would be extended via a one-year contract.
The decision was quite a surprising one, as a massive moment in late-night television history occurred just a few months ago, when the host was briefly suspended after the comments he made surrounding conservative podcaster Charlie Kirk's passing. Around the same time, President Donald Trump began posting harsh, critical messages about Jimmy on platforms like Truth Social, including posts about how he desired to have him fired and taken off the air permanently.
"Why does ABC Fake News keep Jimmy Kimmel, a man with NO TALENT and VERY POOR TELEVISION RATINGS, on the air?" wrote the president. "Why do the TV Syndicates put up with it? Also, totally biased coverage. Get the bum off the air!!!"
On December 8th, ABC made the announcement that Jimmy Kimmel Live will continue its on-air schedule, securing its spot on the air until at least 2027.
Fans React To Jimmy's Contract News On Social Media
The news of the contract extension, despite it being only a year long, pleased many of Jimmy's fans, given a large number of them were concerned that following his drama and back-and-forth feud with the president would get his show cancelled as soon as possible.
On platforms like X, users celebrated the good news and applauded the network as well as the show's host for not giving in to Trump's threatening words.
"Freedom of speech is one of our most precious rights," responded a fan, as another applauded him, writing that he "didn't give in to censorship."
"Congratulations to Jimmy," commented a fan. "Thank you for standing up when so many are rolling over."
"Hurray!" added another. "You help us through this mess, Jimmy. Great news!"
The talk show host has responded to the news of his show's extension himself in a recent video, stating, "We won, the President lost."
