Kathy Bates Opens Up About What Inspired Her 100-Lb Weight Loss
The Misery actress has undergone quite a fabulous transformation, having lost over 100 pounds both naturally and with the assistance of weight loss medication. She's struggled with her weight for years, and told People that the final straw came in 2011, when she was on set for a show and could physically feel the effects of her heavy weight holding her back.
"When I was so heavy in Harry's Law, I had to sit down in between every take, and it was awful," she admitted.
"I'm ashamed to have put myself through that, to be honest."
After her experience on-set, Kathy was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2017, and was ready to make a change. She took on a healthy diet and consistent exercise regimen, and after years of hard work, was able to lose 80 pounds naturally. More recently, she began taking Ozempic to give her an extra push that helped her hit the 100-pound mark. Now, she's able to get back into the zone and perform in her latest series, Matlock, without anything holding her back.
"I don't have to sit down," she told the publication.
"I can stand up all day long and walk and move and breathe and do so many things that I couldn't before."

Kathy Reveals That One Of Her Favorite Exercises Is Walking On A Treadmill
In a more recent interview during the 36th Colleagues Spring Luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, the 77-year-old spoke to People once again about her weight loss, breaking down how she's been maintaining her current weight. She revealed that she loves walking on a treadmill and mentioned that she got one for her home.
"I think it's the best exercise," she said about walking. "Well, it's great for me, and I have a treadmill at home."
The Oscar winner also mentioned that she had been encouraged to do some more strength-training exercises and even said she had some exercise tapes she had planned to follow at home.
It's very encouraging to hear how far a simple movement such as walking on a treadmill has taken Kathy, and after years of hard work, she seems to be still doing great on her health journey. We can't wait to see where it takes her next.
