Kevin James has been a beloved comedic actor for decades, consistently delivering laughs to his fans. However, he’s recently had them surprised, after dropping an impressive 60 pounds.
The actor was a guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast and opened up about losing the weight for a new horror movie role. While he’s been known for being a larger guy who excels at physical comedy, he mentioned on the podcast that when he gets into the “groove” of working out and eating well, he’s able to lose weight faster than he expected himself to be able to. He also spoke about how he’s been doing his best to maintain his recent weight loss through a positive attitude. Read more about his transformation below.
Kevin James Reveals He's Lost 60 Pounds In The Last Year
Last year, on March 8th, the actor appeared as a guest on television personality and podcast host, Joe Rogan's, popular series, the Joe Rogan Experience. Kevin has been acting in films and television series, such as King of Queens, since the 1990s. For the majority of his career, he was well-known for his physical comedy, as a larger man who wasn't afraid to joke about his body type and was able to perform many slapstick-style stunts.
However, during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, he opened up about having to lose weight for a role and discussed how he was able to drop 60 pounds before filming, after years of struggling with his weight and body image issues. He also revealed that losing the weight wasn't as hard as he thought it would be, given that he used some extreme measures, such as fasting and consuming only saltwater throughout the day.
"I can lose it really quick, I can fast and lose it," explained the actor. "I can do it in a month. Less than a month."
However, the Paul Blart: Mall Cop star admitted that while dropping pounds quickly wasn't as big of an issue, trying to maintain his weight loss and keep them off was harder than he thought it would be. He revealed he felt he was having a "mental" block, as he knew he needed to lighten up on processed foods and get more exercise, but he couldn't always bring himself to do it.
Kevin Says He's Getting Into The 'Groove' Of Taking Better Care Of Himself
While talking with the podcast host, the comedic actor said he realized that even though he could lose weight quickly in preparation for a role by fasting, that it's not a very healthy way to maintain a balanced lifestyle. He mentioned fasting also would eventually end in poor results, as he would "blow back up" a few weeks later.
Although trying to maintain his weight loss in a way that is as healthy and natural as possible has been challenging for Kevin, he told Joe that he has been working hard with a trainer and eating satisfying and nutritious meals. In terms of his body image issues, he also admitted that he's learning to not "compare" himself to others as he progresses in his health journey.
"Just recently I've stopped comparing myself to other people," added Kevin, who said that the phrase, 'get better than yourself yesterday,' has been helping to motivate him.
"That concept, for me, works," he continued. "You don't need a lot of stuff, but you need something to engage yourself every day. If you can get into that groove, you do feel better."
