Taco Bell is one of today’s most beloved fast food restaurants, but it’s not always known for being the healthiest.

The Mexican-themed fast food restaurant is one of the most popular chains out there, and while there are a lot of more indulgent, high-calorie menu items that it’s notorious for, there are a few healthier options that can help people stay on track with their health and fitness goals. Although fast food isn’t ideal for those trying to slim down, people can still keep it in their lives, as long as they make healthier choices. A dietitian shared three “low-calorie Taco Bell orders” that can help you make progress and stay full for longer. Read more about them below.

1. Fresco Style Crunchy Taco

This taco can be a smart pick for weight-conscious taco lovers because it has low calories while still containing enough protein and crunch to feel satisfied. The added beef and crisp lettuce provide both protein and fiber, which can help keep you fuller for longer.

"The Fresco-Style Crunchy Taco is one of the lowest-calorie choices and still offers protein while keeping fat and sauces light," says Kathleen Benson, CSSD, CPT, RDN at VNutrition.

2. Cantina Chicken Bowl

If you love ordering a meal that's especially filling and hearty, but also want something that won't totally throw off your daily macros, then the Cantina Chicken Bowl is a great option. This bowl is full of fiberous and protein-packed ingredients, from flavorful shredded chicken to rice, cabbage, and other veggies. It's also a nice choice for those who feel like tacos don't fill them up.

"The Cantina Chicken Bowl isn’t the absolute lowest-calorie option, but it’s one of the most balanced: the combination of lean protein, beans, vegetables, and fiber helps keep you fuller longer, which can prevent overeating later," says Benson.

3. Soft Chicken Taco w/ Avocado Verde Salsa

Another solid taco option is the classic soft chicken taco, which can be flavored up with the restaurant's Avocado Verde Salsa. When you order one to three soft chicken tacos, you can squeeze in extra fiber by asking the restaurant to add extra tomatoes, lettuce, and jalapenos if you'd like.

"A Soft Chicken Taco with Avocado Verde Salsa (or similar lean-protein taco with light cheese/sauce) is another lower-calorie choice that provides protein without excessive fat," explains Benson.
