McDonald’s is joining fellow restaurant chains like Burger King and Popeyes in reopening their dining rooms.

The fast food chain plans to reopen hundreds of locations around America after closing them in mid-March amid the COVID-19 outbreak, the company says.

The company’s US vice president of communications David Tovar told Business Insider that the chain is moving into the “recovery” stage of the pandemic, and starting to open up dining rooms across the U.S.

Tovar told the outlet that it will be allowing franchisees who meet certain requirements to open their dining rooms as well. Wow!

Other corporations such as Starbucks have echoed similar statements of a "slow" reopening phase. Tovar conceded to BI that the pandemic might indeed "rear its ugly head" again. We hope not!

With the country starting to slowly reopen, many costumers and employees reacted to the company's announcement with caution. Additionally, the company is currently facing employee strikes in 20 cities over claims that they're not properly protecting workers from the novel coronavirus.

Fears of a potential second wave of the virus, in opposition of those who believe reopening business and resuming "normal" daily activities such as eating at fast food chains, is necessary for the economic recovery of the country.

And while this certainly is good news for the many Americans who rely on McDonald's affordable meals to feed their family's--we think it's smart for McDonald's to take this slow.

And that sentiment is shared by the restaurant chain as well. "We certainly don't want to move too fast and then put either our employees or any customers at any additional risk," Tovar said.
