So many people out there will tell you not to eat something or only to eat one or two specific foods. Meanwhile, they don’t explain why.
One of the most popular diet trends today is the Mediterranean diet, which focuses on more plant-based meals with fruits and vegetables, healthy sources of fat, and less processed foods. While people have been raving about the diet’s health benefits, sometimes, it’s nice to hear the science behind why it works so well for weight loss and alleviating certain symptoms.
Luckily, a TikTok creator who specializes in menopause health content and lost 44 pounds by following a Mediterranean diet, which helped her keep the weight off for three years, broke down a recent study that found the Mediterranean or a more plant-based diet helped patients significantly improve their help and decrease their mortality rate.

A New Study Compared The Benefits Of The Planetary Health Diet And Mediterranean Diet
“A new study just dropped that you’re gonna want to pay attention to,” says Staci Hall, a TikTok content creator who’s been sharing videos about what helped her lose 44 pounds of weight she gained during menopause.
Staci references a recent study by the European Society of Cardiology in Spain that looked at the Planetary Health and Mediterranean diets to compare their health benefits and environmental impact.
“Researchers in Span followed over 11,000 people for more than 14 years, tracking what they ate and how it affected their health and the health of the planet,” explains Staci.
“They wanted to take a look specifically at the Mediterranean diet and the Planetary Health diet. Both diets focus heavily on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and healthy fats [with] limited red meat, sugar, and processed foods.”
While the participants in the study didn’t have to cut out red meat, sugar, and processed foods, they ate significantly lower amounts than people on standard diets. Staci adds that each diet focuses on “lower meat, higher plants.”
The study’s participants were, on average, a little over 40 years old, but the age range varied from 18 to 96 years old. Do you want to know what happened to those who focused on the more plant-based diet?
