On Friday, December 12th, the With Love, Meghan star announced that she and Prince Harry are executive producing a documentary centered on Girl Scouts selling cookies. The project, directed by Alysa Nahmias, is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah early next year.
According to the official synopsis, the documentary reportedly follows "four tenacious girls who strive to be a top-selling 'Cookie Queen,' navigating an 800-million-dollar business in which childhood and ambition collide."
Meghan was reportedly a Girl Scout herself, while her mother, Doria Ragland, was a troop leader. According to a statement, the former Suits star said: "When we first viewed the early footage of this documentary, it was immediately something we wanted to be involved in. The creative point of view, the edgy yet humanizing tone and tenor of the directing, and the glimpse behind-the-scenes into such a nostalgic and also modern tradition of Girl Scout Cookie season are absolutely irresistible."
Meghan's Announcement Came The Same Time As King Charles' Cancer Update
Unfortunately for Meghan, the announcement came just a few hours before her father-in-law King Charles shared a hopeful cancer update with the world, prompting royal insiders and internet critics alike to speculate that the timing was anything but accidental.
Many people believe that Meghan and Prince Harry must have known the update was coming, with one insider telling RadarOnline: "The timing comes across as utterly self-serving. The project itself is fine, but it inevitably steals attention from a significant and hopeful moment for the King."
Another insider reportedly added: "It feels like a deliberate effort to shift public attention at a time when the royal family is already under intense scrutiny for other matters. It is both super-cynical and tone deaf and feels as if it was timed to take away from Charles' announcement.
