While there are many things worth discussing involving President Donald Trump’s second administration, over the last two weeks, Melania Trump’s documentary has made a lot of headlines.
The controversial documentary following the life of the First Lady had its theatrical release nearly two weeks ago. Prior to its release, the internet and American citizens had numerous debates as to how the film would perform in theater box offices, and the results of its first week out surprised many. Its impressive opening stats defied expectations, despite rumors circulating that the president had growing envy for his predecessors. Read more about the film and its first week below.
Melania Trump's Documentary Film Makes $7M During Its Opening Weekend In Theaters
Although there's been a lot going on in the world, more specifically, within the United States and President Trump's current policies, one of the most buzzing topics of the last two weeks has been Melania Trump's documentary film, Melania, which premiered in theaters across the country on Jan. 30.
The film was made to give audiences more of an inside glimpse at the reserved First Lady and the first few days of her husband's second term as president. While promoting it, the president boasted about the film on his social media, and at the same time, numerous other internet users had their doubts about how it would perform in theaters.
Internet users would post messages like, "This doesn't even seem like something even the most hardcore of MAGA fanatics would be interested in," and "Nobody was asking for this trainwreck."
However, it surprised many, as during its opening weekend in theaters, it grossed $7 million in the United States and Canada, reportedly making it one of the most successful theatrical releases of a documentary in a long time.
"Melania was released widely on Jan. 30 and, in its opening weekend, smashed expectations, earning at least $7 million," wrote Ingrid Jacques for USA Today. "That's the best opening for a documentary in more than a decade."

Fans React To 'Melania's' Box Office Success On Social Media
Although the documentary exceeded expectations during its opening weekend, it still received a lot of negative responses from today's film critics, as many labeled it "boring" and, aside from its 'confusing' layout of content, felt that it didn't give viewers as much information as they longed to know about the Slovenian native.
As reviews came in, and box office numbers began to decline following the film's first days in theaters, so did reports and rumors that the Apprentice star and his wife were feeling "envious" of the success Michelle Obama's Netflix documentary, Becoming, had upon its initial release in 2020 and the resurgence in views it received this year. Still, numerous Trump supporters and open-minded moviegoers alike found themselves giving Melania a chance.
"I enjoyed the Melania movie," wrote a fan on Instagram. "She seems to me to be a First Lady who is graceful, elegant, artistic, and very aware of beauty & design in her surroundings."
"Saw it last night, and it was even better than my expectations!" added another.
