Melania Pens Open Letter To Putin
Last week, two White House officials reported that Donald Trump hand delivered an open letter from his wife to Putin during their summit talks in Alaska. Melania did not join her husband on the trip, but after the original letter was handed to Putin, Melania shared her words on the @FLOTUS Instagram page.
“Every child shares the same quiet dreams in their heart, whether born randomly into a nation’s rustic countryside or a magnificent city-center. They dream of love, possibility, and safety from danger,” the letter begins.
She goes on to describe how it is their duty as parents and as leaders to ensure a safe world for children to live in. “A simple yet profound concept, Mr. Putin, as I am sure you agree, is that each generation’s descendants begin their lives with a purity — an innocence which stands above geography, government, and ideology,” she wrote.
"In today's world, some children are forced to carry a quiet laughter, untouched by the darkness around them—a silent defiance against the forces that can potentially claim their future," she continued. "Mr. Putin, you can single handedly restore their melodic laughter."
"In protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone," she wrote. "You serve humanity itself. Such a bold idea transcends all human division, and you, Mr. Putin, are fit to implement this vision with a stroke of the pen today."
"It is time," she finished.

Social Media Reactions
In the comment section, many praised the First Lady for doing her part to convince Putin to choose peace. But others thought it was largely hypocritical, performative, and plainly, useless. "Write your husband a letter!" one person wrote. "The children here in America are having benefits stripped away from them - healthcare, food, education, stripped away from their families, missing their cancer treatments & so much more!"
"What about the children in this country?" another agreed.
"Looks like a ChatGPT letter for sure," one person wrote.
"I think it's a fake letter," said another. "It's also ridiculous."
"This is not just hypocritical, it's performative," another user posted. "Gross."
"Seriously??" a final person commented. "Maybe stop arresting children in your own country!!"
