Tension is brewing inside Vanity Fair over Melania Trump, though the First Lady appears to be shrugging off the controversy.
According to Semafor, the magazine’s new global editorial director, Mark Guiducci, brought up the idea of featuring Melania on the publication’s coveted cover—a move aimed at stamping his mark on the Condé Nast-owned outlet.
But the suggestion reportedly triggered outrage among staff, with some threatening to “walk out the motherf–king door” if the plan moves forward. The thought of putting a spotlight on the mother of one quickly set off a wave of backlash from the mainly left-leaning employees.
Melania Trump Laughs Off Vanity Fair Meltdown
“I will walk out the motherf–king door, and half my staff will follow me,” an angry editor claimed to the Daily Mail. “We are not going to normalize this despot and his wife; we’re just not going to do it. We’re going to stand for what’s right.”
The employee continued, “If I have to work bagging groceries at Trader Joe’s, I’ll do it. If [Guiducci] puts Melania on the cover, half of the editorial staff will walk out, I guarantee it.”
However, it seems that Melania is completely unbothered and could care less about a magazine cover. According to the New York Post, the former model “laughed” at the idea of being on Vanity Fair’s cover last month.
“She doesn’t have time to be sitting in a photo shoot,” an insider familiar with Melania told the Post’s Miranda Devine. “Her priorities as first lady are far more important. These people don’t deserve her anyway.”
Melania Trump Worried for Barron Trump’s Sophomore Year
Shifting focus to family, a major priority for Melania right now is Barron’s return to NYU for his sophomore year. According to a source who spoke with PEOPLE, the former First Lady is determined to ensure that her 19-year-old son is well-protected while living in New York City.
“Melania watches Barron constantly in an effort to be sure nobody messes with him or bullies him, as this is a constant worry with her,” the source said. “She always knows where he is and what he’s doing.”
In late 2024, Melanie decided to not let Barron live on campus and instead keep him at the Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan.
“She will do everything she can to make sure Barron does well in school and is socially and mentally adjusted to his life as a college student,” the political insider told PEOPLE of Melania. They added that living in a dorm like other students wasn’t “in the stars” for Barron “at this point.”
