Melania Trump’s first Halloween back in the White House has not gone over well with American citizens, namely because her Halloween decor is not only quite uncreative, it’s tacky considering the government shutdown. While millions prepare to go without pay and food due to the government’s unprecedented 33-day shutdown, Melania decks out the White House with hundreds of pumpkins. Keep reading for more information.

Melania Trump’s ‘Tacky’ White House Halloween Decor

The decor in question features hundreds of large pumpkins lining the stairs outside the White House, with paper leaves hanging from invisible fishing line in front of the doors. A simple “Halloween 2025” sign hangs in the center, and while it doesn’t necessarily look bad, it looks incredibly low effort, especially when compared to decor from past years.

Aside from how it looks, though, citizens are furious with Melania and her husband for putting workers’ time and effort into decorating for Halloween while the government remains out of operation. Many federal workers and their families have gone for weeks without paychecks, and it doesn’t look like the Trumps are making any effort to put an end to the shutdown.

Social Media Reactions

Across social media platforms, users are calling out Donald and Melania for their "tacky" Halloween decor and their part and keeping the government in a shutdown. "Maybe less of this and more of getting the government back open?" one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

"Looks very tacky," another person said, while a third added, "While Americans prepare to go hungry in a few days."

"The White House is scary enough these days, without any holiday assistance," one user tweeted.

"Well it's definitely been a horror show so far," another agreed.

"Awesome, too bad millions will have no food soon" a final user posted.
