The One Mistake You’re Making When Your iPhone Won’t Hold Charge

If you’re frustrated beyond belief because your iPhone no longer seems to be holding a charge, it can be tempting to rush over to the Apple store and spend money (major amounts of money) to fix it. 

But we spoke with tech experts who said there may be a much more affordable fix that you aren’t considering. This is the one mistake you’re making when your iPhone won’t hold a charge — and what you should do instead. 

There is one major telltale sign that your iPhone battery needs to be replaced. “If your iPhone needs charging more frequently, the charge runs out fast or your phone starts to shut down unexpectedly, it means your battery is old and needs replacing,” says Tech Expert Dave Pearson, founder of SoundproofGeek

Both Pearson and Harrison suggest checking the battery health meter on your iPhone before you spend a cent to repair your phone. To do this, go to Settings > Battery. Tap on Battery Health. 

“[…] you will see maximum capacity, this is a measure of your battery capacity against when it was new,” Pearson says. “Below that is the battery's peak performance capacity, a message saying ‘your battery is currently supporting normal peak performance’ will be shown if your battery is running well. Seeing all these signs and knowing the health of your iPhone battery can help you determine it needs to be changed.”
