After facing backlash due to show cancelations, Netflix has seemingly redeemed itself with a new original action-thriller movie that subscribers can’t seem to look away from.

The streaming service released Exterritorial, an action-packed thriller involving a mother determined to find her lost son, last week, and it’s causing a stir on the internet as subscription holders found themselves locked into the story. Many of those viewers took to social media to rave about the film, which briefly held an impressive spot as the most-watched film in the United States during its release week. Read more about the intense movie below.

Netflix Releases Action-Thriller Movie 'Exterritorial' On April 30th

The new film, which has drawn much attention over the last week, is a German production that the major streaming service released for its viewers on Wednesday, April 30th.

Written and directed by German filmmaker Christian Zübert, the movie follows Sara, an ex-special forces soldier whose son suddenly disappears at the U.S. consulate in Frankfurt, Germany. With a run time of an hour and forty-nine minutes, the movie includes action-packed scenes and leaves viewers on their toes as they, too, try to put together the pieces of what might've happened to the soldier's son as a conspiracy theory unfolds.

Although some Netflix original movies can be hits or misses, according to their Top 10 lists, Exterritorial was at the top of their list for non-English films during the week it was released, eventually taking the number one spot on the services 'Top 10 Most Popular Movies In The United States' list,' surpassing their new star-studded action movie Havoc, starring Tom Hardy.

Exterritorial stars 29-year-old German-French actress Jeanne Goursaud, who is known for her performance in the Netflix historical drama series Barbarians. Other cast members include Scottish actor Dougray Scott and Russian actress Lera Abova.

Netflix Users Say The New Film Is 'Such A Good Watch' And Leave Positive Reviews On Social Media

Once the film was released and quickly gained views, Netflix streamers and subscribers began leaving positive reviews on various social media platforms, from X to movie review apps like Letterboxd. Whether they're fans of action and thriller films or not, Netflix users felt it was very good and certainly worth a watch.

"Definitely a 10/10," wrote a Netflix user on X. "Always shows how far a mother would go for her child."

"I definitely recommend," added another subscriber on X, as another wrote, "Exterritorial on Netflix was such a good watch."

Many fans echoed the same sentiments on film review platforms like Letterboxd, where film enthusiasts and more can share reviews on the movies they just watched. Some viewers enjoyed some unique and more realistic aspects of the plot, and many enjoyed Goursaud's performance.

"Finally, an action movie where the protagonist isn't unbeatable or pulls off extremely accurate stunts on the first try," wrote a Letterboxd user. "I loved that."

"This movie was mind-blowing," added another.

"All the plot twists. I can't explain how much this movie had me on edge. I love it so much."

"I need to find more movies like this," commented another user in their review.

If you're not usually into action or thrilling films and want to switch things up during your upcoming movie nights, check out Exterritorial to see what you think. According to one reviewer, you may have a "mind-blowing" experience.
