6 Must-Watch Horror & Comedy Flicks To Stream On Prime Video This October

1. The Witch

Since its release in 2015, this highly-praised A24 folk horror film, featuring Anya Taylor-Joy, has been terrifying audiences with its eerie storyline and mesmerizing viewers with its breathtaking cinematography. The Witch is set in 1630s New England and unfolds against a backdrop of rising panic and despair as a farmer, his wife, and their children grapple with the sudden disappearance of their youngest son.

2. Lisa Frankenstein

If you’re more in the mood for a horror-tinged comedy, look no further. 2024’s Lisa Frankenstein, starring Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse, is set in the very same fictional universe as the 2009 hit, Jennifer’s Body, starring Megan Fox. The amusing and whimsical storyline centers around Lisa, a misunderstood teenager, who forms an unlikely bond with a reanimated corpse from the Victorian era.

3. The Silence Of The Lambs

If you’re craving a timeless horror masterpiece that boasts Oscar nominations and showcases stellar performances by Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, then 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs is the film you need to watch. This gripping psychological horror thriller centers on an ambitious young FBI trainee on the trail of a notorious serial killer, “Buffalo Bill.” In her desperate quest to apprehend him, she turns to the incarcerated Hannibal Lecter, a genius psychiatrist with a dark history as a cannibalistic murderer, for his chilling expertise.

4. The Thing

Another gem in the realms of horror and sci-fi by the legendary director John Carpenter is 1982’s The Thing, featuring Kurt Russell in a pivotal role. This film, inspired by John W. Campbell Jr.’s 1938 novella Who Goes There?, unfolds the harrowing tale of American researchers stationed in Antarctica. They stumble upon the eponymous “Thing,” an alien entity capable of absorbing and mimicking other life forms. Confronted with the terrifying truth that the creature could be lurking within their ranks, the researchers are engulfed by paranoia and suspicion. This spirals out of control, dismantling their sense of unity.

5. An American Werewolf In London

Featuring one of the most iconic werewolf transformation scenes of all time, 1981’s An American Werewolf in London is the perfect blend of eeriness, spookiness and comedy. The movie’s storyline centers on two American backpackers, David and Jack, who, while journeying through England, are assaulted by a werewolf. This encounter leads to David becoming a werewolf with the arrival of the next full moon.

6. Barbarian

Last but not least, this terrifying horror thriller flick received a plethora of positive reviews since its 2022 release, and features gripping performances from Georgina Campbell, horror veteran Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long. The plot follows a woman who discovers that the rental home she had reserved has been mistakenly double-booked by a man, all while an ominous secret lurks within the house.

Happy Spooky Season Streaming!
