It’s no secret that we’re exposed to radiation every day of our lives, but you might not be thinking about how your phone charger can be contributing to it.

Given the modern world we’re living in, full of cell towers and all sorts of other technological devices, we’re consistently surrounded by and exposed to radiation. While not all of it is harmful, health experts have been warning against overexposure for a while, as they continue to research the effects electromagnetic fields may have on us. Recently, Dr. Daniel Pompa made an Instagram reel about smartphone chargers and how they may be exposing you to radiation more often than you think. Read more about what he had to say below.

Dr. Daniel Pompa Warns Against Using Smartphone Chargers

In one of his latest reels, 'Why Your Charger Could Be Dangerous,' Dr. Daniel Pompa, a health expert and content creator, partners up with a tech expert to explore smartphone chargers and just how much "bad electromagnetic frequency" they emit. In his video, the doctor is holding an iPhone that's plugged into a standard charging cable, before he asks the tech expert to hold up a radiation detector, which immediately begins sounding off near his arm and the cable.

"Show them the amount of radiation," says Dr. Pompa. "That's going right into me!"

The doctor then switches to a 'safety charger' device that specializes in electromagnetic field shielding, and the radiation detector barely picks anything up as it's held next to the new charger. Aside from promoting the safe charging cube, Dr. Pompa notes that "every time you plug your phone in, you're getting massive amounts of radiation."

Ways To Practice Safe Charging

The type of radiation emitted by cell phones, WiFi, and other devices is known as non-ionizing radiation, which is considered less risky than the radiation associated with X-rays or radioactive materials. This is why we're able to live our everyday lives around non-ionizing exposure without getting hurt.

However, health experts are continuing to research and debate how the prolonged interaction with non-ionizing radiation can affect our health and bodies, given that we're now surrounded by it in our everyday lives. Therefore, it's being recommended by some experts, like Dr. Janine Bowring, a practitioner of naturopathic medicine, who has said you should "never" use your phone while it's plugged in, due to EMF exposure being higher while charging.

As the debate continues, it's important not to stress too much about excess radiation exposure, but you can always take some precautionary steps that can help out your physical and mental health, like taking a break away from your phone when it's plugged in. Stay at least six feet away, and in return, you can get a mental break from scrolling.
