Since their shocking announcement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been quickly settling into their new lifestyle in Canada. The couple and nine-month-old Archie enjoy their quiet life in the beautiful scenery of Vancouver Island.
The serene environment is quite a big difference from the chaotic energy that ensued following the January 8 news that Prince Harry and Meghan would be stepping down from their royal duties.
Both Prince Harry and Meghan are feeling rejuvenated. A source close to the couple told PEOPLE that Prince Harry and Meghan’s “decision [to leave] had been weighing on them for a long time, and they are relieved to have it done.” The source further explained that “a weight has been lifted off their shoulders.”
It’s no surprise that the family-of-three had to give up a lot in order to trade their royal life for newfound independence.

The sacrifices include dropping their royal titles and Harry having to give up something dear to him--his role as youth ambassador to the Commonwealth. Of course, this break from royal traditions was not able to happen without difficult conversations and negotiations with the rest of the family.

The Sussex Royal website has recently released new information following the announcement and have outlined their strategy for moving forward.

This strategy includes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s revised roles, taking effect in Spring 2020 and undergoing a 12 month review. The Sussex Royal website explained that, “the royal family respect and understand the wish of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to live a more independent life as a family, by removing the supposed ‘public interest’ justification for media intrusion into their lives. They remain a valued part of Her Majesty’s family.”
