The late Prince Philip was always known for speaking his mind – even if his words weren’t the kindest or most socially correct. And his unfiltered and often controversial comments earned him a loyal audience who waited eagerly to hear the next wild and possibly even inappropriate thing he would say.

We already know that he wasn’t thrilled about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s wedding in May 2018, reportedly muttering to the late Queen Elizabeth II when it ended: “Thank *expletive* that’s over.” And now, another eyebrow-raising remark about their marriage has resurfaced…

What Did Prince Philip Say About Prince Harry's Engagement To Meghan Markle?

According to Andrew Lownie's new book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, Prince Philip had a sharp warning for his grandson when he found out about his engagement to the Suits actress.

His statement, which was actually more like a warning, according to Lownie, was: "One steps out with actresses, one doesn't marry them." Yikes!

The internet is predictably divided upon hearing about his alleged warning. Some agree wholeheartedly with the late Duke of Edinburgh, while others find the comment cruel and unnecessary.

Fan Comments

"Harry should have listened to his grandfather," commented one fan on a People article. "Philip quickly worked her out," echoed a second, as many others also didn't hold back…

"His grandfather didn't say anything wrong he saw her for what she was and is. If I was her, I wouldn't show my face after what she did to her family and that wasn't enough she had to destroy his family too," slammed a third.

"Meghan was rude and abrasive according to Prince Philip. Harry was warned by his brother to take it slow. She was accused of bullying within the palace. Then she was Duchess Difficult and reduced grown men to tears in America. This is not a coincidence," noted a fourth.

Then came the more sardonic takes. "Sounds like a comment from a man who had been there, done that, but was smart enough not to marry it," thought a fifth, as a sixth observed: "Well Philip supported Fergie and Diana marrying into the Royals. Look how those unions worked out. So there's that. "

A seventh quipped: "That is amusing what Prince Philip said... that being said, that's what they say about mistresses. Did Prince Philip advise his son, King Charles?" "Philip more than likely wanted Harry to marry his 3rd cousin, like Philip did by marrying Elizabeth. Keep it in the family," wrote an eighth, as plenty of other people pushed back.

"What an entitled, unfortunate family (Philip in particular) and horrid thing for him to say," criticized a ninth. The same person added: "Such condescension from Philip. Long past time for that family to be fired and their millions in real estate and entitlement returned to the people of England who actually need it."

Prince William's Alleged Warning To Prince Harry

Of course, Prince Philip wasn't the only senior royal to voice his concerns about the now Duchess of Sussex, as Prince Harry touched on older brother Prince William's warning when they first started dating in his bombshell memoir, Spare.

"She's an American actress, after all, Harold. Anything might happen," Prince William allegedly said, according to Prince Harry's memoir.

Interestingly though, Prince Harry went back on this in an interview with ITV News' Tom Bradby. He said: "No, he never tried to dissuade me from marrying Meghan, but he aired some concerns, very early on and said, you know, this is gonna be really hard for you."

The father-of-two went on: "And I still to this day, I don't truly understand which part of what he was talking about. But maybe, you know, maybe he predicted what the British press' reaction was gonna be."
