If you cast your minds back to May 2018, you may remember that a picture of Meghan Markle‘s former Suits co-star Rick Hoffman pulling what appeared to be a disgusted facial expression at the royal wedding went viral. And now, six years later, we finally know why!
The 53-year-old actor, who played the role of lawyer Louis Litt in the hit legal drama, confessed there was a “foul” smell in St. George’s Chapel ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding, which is what caused his now viral facial expression.

Meghan Markle’s ‘Suits’ Co-Star Reveals More About His Viral Facial Expression
Speaking on the February 14th episode of Barstool Sports’ Chicks in the Office podcast, Hoffman said: “If you type in my name in on Google, you see [me] making that awful face.”
Hoffman explained that he started to “smell something really terrible and foul” in the church, which he presumed was someone’s (or many people’s) “terrible breath.”
He then joked: “Guess who knew that the most in the cast that I had an issue with other people’s hygiene? Meghan! Always knew and would always laugh about how I was so sensitive.”
Hoffman said the royal wedding was an “incredibly special” event, and it almost “didn’t feel real” to be in attendance. He explained that he was eagerly anticipating his former co-star to make her long-awaited entrance in the chapel, and recalled: “And then as time goes on, I’m starting to smell something really terrible and foul.”

The Thanksgiving actor went on to reiterate how he is "very sensitive" to smells, so he tried to mask the smell by covering his nose with his hand, which he said was covered in a coconut and vanilla scented moisturizer.
"I try to cut it," he said, in reference to the smell, before asking if there is any way to recover from his viral reaction, which has since been turned into a meme. "How can I help getting away from this goofy face?" he asked.
