Royal Moving Day
The family has lived in Adelaide Cottage within the Windsor Palace ground since August 2022. Since then, Queen Elizabeth has passed away and both King Charles and Princess Kate were diagnosed with cancer and started fighting their individual battles. Like any family, they're ready for a fresh start, and for them, that means a new home.
"Windsor has become their home," an insider told NBC News. "However, over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage there have been some really difficult times. Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind. This is a move for the long term. They see it as their forever home."
The family will be moving to Forest Cottage, an eight-bedroom home in Windsor Great Park. This move is being funded privately, with William and Kate paying market rent, and, as with Adelaide Cottage, they will not have live-in staff.
A Difficult Year Behind Them
While Princess Kate and King Charles have had it the most difficult, both undergoing intensive treatment programs in the last year and a half, the ordeal has been hard on the whole family.
In an interview in South Africa at the end of last year, Prince William shed some light on how he's been handling the health diagnoses of his closest family members. "Trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult," he said to Sky News, NBC's international partner. He added that he is "so proud of his wife, I'm proud of my father," and that Kate is "amazing and doing well."
Speaking on the year, though, he called it "brutal," and said, "It's been dreadful. It's probably been the hardest year in my life."
When the interviewer pointed out that the Prince seemed more relaxed than usual, he responded, "It's interesting you say that, 'cause I couldn't be less relaxed this year. So it's very interesting you're all seeing that. But it's more a case of just crack on and you've got to keep going... I enjoy my work, and I enjoy pacing myself and keeping sure that I have got time for my family, too."
