King Charles and Queen Camilla‘s brand new Coronation portraits were unveiled at the National Gallery on Tuesday, May 6th, as part of the museum’s 200th anniversary celebration. And royal enthusiasts may also be aware that the date also marked the second anniversary of King Charles coronation!

King Charles’ portrait was created by Peter Kuhfeld, while Queen Camilla’s was created by Paul S Benney. Both of them show the monarch and the Queen Consort in their Robes of State and their crowns; and to say there have been mixed reactions to Queen Camilla’s portrait would be a huge understatement.

Reactions To Queen Camilla's Latest Portrait

The Telegraph reports that Queen Camilla's daughter and gallerist Laura Lopes said of her mother's portrait during the event: "It's so incredible. It's very flattering." Queen Camilla herself reportedly chimed in: "Don't say it's very flattering! I just love it." But social media isn't so sure, with many people thinking the Queen Consort looked "unrecognizable," to quote one X user.

"Who is that woman in the portrait? Certainly not Camilla! Yikes. Is there a fake Camilla, like fake Melania?" asked a second critic on X, alongside pictures of the portraits, as many others also thought that the portrait wasn't an accurate representation of the Queen Consort.

Social Media Thinks Queen Camilla's Portrait Doesn't Look Anything Like Her

"Do we know who sat for Camilla's portrait?" quipped a third X user. "We all know she doesn't look anything like that. She's in her late 70s. Wrinkled and weather beaten," slammed a fourth, as a fifth concurred: "She looks at least a decade younger than she is."

A sixth commented: "Honest first reaction! I am not a fan of King Charles' portrait! I am still deciding about Queen Camilla's effigy but she seems so much younger than she really is. Isn't this supposed to be a portrait of now? #meh Score: 6/10."
