‘Today’ Fans Are Emotional After Savannah Guthrie Reveals On Air That Host Sheinelle Jones Has Lost Her Husband To Brain Cancer: ‘There Are No Words’

Savannah Guthrie revealed “with profound sadness” that Today co-star Sheinelle Jones has lost her husband, Uche Ojeh, to brain cancer.
Surrounded by her colleagues during the Friday, May 23rd episode of the show, Guthrie shared that Ojeh – who was married to Jones for 17 years and shares three children with her – passed away at the age of 45 after battling an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. Jones and Ojeh, a business consultant, were college sweethearts, dating for eight years before tying the knot.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him,” Guthrie said on the show.
Jones, who has been taking time away from Today since December, shared a video of Guthrie’s announcement on Instagram on May 23rd, with the simple caption: “Thank you, for all of your love and support.” She finished with a red heart emoji.
Her Today family sent their condolences in the comments. Guthrie wrote: “Uche was an extraordinary person. Full of light and heart and faith. Sheinelle, my dearest, we love you and the kids with all of our hearts. I marvel at your strength. You are surrounded by love now and forever.”
“Love you Sheinelle… we wrap our arms around you now and forever!” co-host Jenna Bush Hager commented, while meteorologist Dylan Dreyer added: “Hoping you can find peace in the love and prayers that surround you and your incredible children. I’m so lucky to have known Uche and his spirit lives on in your family.”
Today viewers quickly took to social media to offer their sympathies after the announcement aired. “My condolences to the family, may this sweet soul RIP,” commented one fan on a YouTube video. “This really did break my heart,” wrote a second, as a third added: “What a beautiful couple and family very sorry for her and children.”
“This breaks my heart. What a beautiful family️,” commented a fourth fan, followed by two red heart emojis. “So so heartbreaking,” echoed a fifth, followed by the broken heart emoji, as a sixth added: “Heartbreaking. So sorry Sheinelle.”
