We rely on our iPhones for so much — and throughout the day. It comes as no surprise that many of us are simply leaving our devices on for hours at a time, simply because doing so is more convenient. But Tech Expert Mika Kujapelto, CEO and founder of LaptopUnboxed, spoke to  SHEFinds.com about the scary mistake you’re probably making when you turn off your iPhone.

The mistake you’re making isn’t that you’re turning off your iPhone — quite the opposite. “One mistake iPhone users make when shutting off their phone is not shutting it off enough,” Kujapelto says. “Leaving your phone on all the time will only lead to more problems with your phone, such as crashes and your battery draining faster than usual. This is because your phone needs more rest than you're giving it.”

When you don’t shut your phone enough to rest, your phone is still working even when your apps aren’t open, consuming more battery and using up more memory than it needs to, Kujapelto says.

So, how often should you actually shut off your phone?

“If you don’t remember the last time you restarted your phone, chances are you don’t do it often enough,” Kujapelto says. “You should turn your iPhone off once a week for at least a minute or two because even your phone needs a little rest.”

Resetting your phone once a week is an excellent way of prolonging the life of your device. “Giving it a weekly rest will help prevent those pesky crashes, prolongs your phone’s battery life, and helps preserve your phone's memory,” Kujapelto says.
