Selena Gomez Seen Using A Vape Pen In Viral Instagram Post After Receiving A Kidney Transplant

In 2015, the Disney Channel alum revealed that she was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease that can attack the body's healthy organs and tissue. According to the Mayo Clinic, lupus can cause a variety of irritating and painful symptoms, including fatigue, chest pain, headaches, rashes, and more.

Two years after sharing her diagnosis with the world, Selena announced that she had to undergo a kidney transplant due to complications from her lupus that damaged her kidney. Her donor was a friend and fellow actress, Francia Raisa. After the successful operation, the two gave several interviews and became advocates for organ donation.

Then, in 2023, Francia told Today.com that she didn't speak to the "Who Says" singer for about a year after she said in her Apple TV+ documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, that Taylor Swift was her "only friend in the industry."

They eventually made amends, and Selena went on to express her love for her life-saving friend on social media. However, some believe the two friends may begin arguing again after an Instagram post containing pictures and videos of Selena holding and using a vape pen recently went viral.

The reel, shared by a celebrity gossip account, consisted of a recent video of the singer vaping while sitting in a makeup chair and paparazzi photos where she can be seen with a vape in her hand. "She was seen [vaping], even though she got Francia's kidney and shouldn't," wrote the poster in their video.

Fans React To Pictures And Videos Of Selena Vaping

The post went viral with over 47,000 likes and numerous comments, and fans of the 32-year-old and other internet users shared their concerns and outrage. While no one can be sure that Selena is an avid vape user, and if the vape contained nicotine or some kind of CBD product to manage pain, there is still concern that she's picked up a historically harmful habit after a major procedure that requires years of self-care.

Many commenters also expressed disappointment and mentioned Francia, writing that they couldn't imagine how she would feel if she saw those videos after making such a significant sacrifice for her friend's health.

"I would get so mad if I were the donor," commented an Instagram user.

"Isn't that going to affect her lupus?" asked a fan. "Vaping is bad for your health."

"Her best friend literally gave up a kidney for her, and she's vaping," wrote an upset Instagram user.

Other fans defended Selena, with many writing that she may be using the vape for pain management and others standing by the notion that she's a grown woman who can make her own decisions.

"[In] the end, it's her own health and body; let her do whatever," added a user.

We'll be curious to see if Selena decides to acknowledge the viral post or choose to give some sort of explanation behind her vape use, but for now, the internet certainly is buzzing over it.
