Seth MacFarland Makes A Joke About Ellen's Move To The UK At A Charity Gala

On Monday, May 12th, Seth MacFarland took the stage at the annual Robin Hood charity gala in New York City. The charity gala is held in honor of the famous foundation, which raises money to fight poverty and support New Yorkers in need.

During this year's gala, numerous celebrities and important figures, from Serena Williams to current NY Governor Kathy Hochul. They raised an impressive $72M this year, making it a very successful event. For the festivities, Seth MacFarland, the famous voice actor, writer, and creator of Family Guy, did a bit of standup comedy and, as many comedians do when performing in a room of stars, took some jabs at a few notable celebrities.

One of those celebrities was Ellen, who has been maintaining a more private lifestyle since moving to the Cotswolds region of England in 2024. The 67-year-old and her wife, Portia de Rossi, moved to England in late 2024, reportedly in response to Donald Trump being elected for a second term as president.

While he was on the mic at the Robin Hood gala, the Peter Griffin voice actor decided to bring this up, joking that she "left right after the election, and now she's the nicest person in France." Seth's little jab is not only a reference to Ellen's drastic lifestyle change but also the cancellation of her legendary talk show due to reports of it being a toxic workplace.

Ellen Moved To England Not Long After Her Talk Show Was Cancelled

What was arguably the most significant achievement throughout her three decades of fame was her daytime talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which was on air for nearly 20 years, from 2003 to 2022.

However, everything ended unexpectedly and on a sour note, as the show was canceled after reports came out that the notorious, fun, and engaging series was a toxic and negative workplace behind the scenes. Although the show's host attempted to defend herself, stating she was not a "mean" person in her latest comedy special, the aftermath of the cancellation was not great, and she lost many fans. Therefore, in 2024, it was not all that surprising when people found out she had decided to move to England with her wife of 17 years, Portia.

Since then, she's been posting a few pictures and videos of their new life, which includes living on a vast piece of countryside land and taking care of farm animals like chickens. Many internet users and pop culture enthusiasts assumed the main reason Ellen moved to the UK and dropped out of the public eye was due to her being "canceled." Still, other reports stated that she and her wife chose to sell their home in California and start a new life abroad after Donald Trump was elected for a second term as president at the end of 2024.

Whatever the reason, her move overseas is still being talked about, even in a room full of major charitable figures almost one year later.
