Most people believe that because salads are made from vegetables, they are inherently healthy. But this couldn’t be farther from the truth. While most salads are full of healthy, nutritious and low-calorie ingredients, there are many popular salad ingredients that can actually be quite bad for you. In fact, one of the worst salad ingredients you can use is a type of vegetable.
Corn is used in salads quite often, whether in a green salad, bean salad or even just a corn salad. Its sweet flavor is usually a welcome guest in any recipe, but it has some qualities you don't want in a healthy meal.

Corn is high in fiber, so many people assume it is good for you. But it is also loaded with starch, which is extremely bad.

High-starch foods can spike your blood sugar, prevent weight loss and slow down your metabolism. Eating excessive amounts of starches can even increase your risk of health conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

Corn has the highest starch content of all vegetables, meaning it is the first veggie you should skip when mixing up your next salad. Instead, stick to leafy greens to get a good dose of iron and vitamins.
