Most of us consider yogurt to be a healthy option to start your day. And while this may be true, there is one very common mistake many people make with yogurt that actually turn it into a source of sugar, carbs and fat.

If you buy flavored or sweetened yogurt, you should change your habits immediately. Even if the flavors you have seem to be healthy, like fruit and berry options.

Flavored yogurts tend to have incredibly high amounts of sugar and carbs - which are the last things you need at the start of your day.

The American Heart Association recommends adult women limit their sugar intake to just 25 grams per day. And we've seen berry yogurt with as much as 21 grams of sugar per serving, which would put you just about at your limit before you've even left the house.

Instead of buying flavored yogurt, opt for plain Greek yogurt. This has a ton of calcium, vitamin D and probiotics that support gut health. Then add in your own berries and sweeten it with honey to keep your added sugar intake to a minimum.
