Sydney Sweeney is looking a little – okay, a lot – different these days! The 24-year-old Euphoria actress took the world by surprise when she unveiled a dramatic new look on Instagram on March 1st that we definitely weren’t expecting! Her signature shiny blonde locks were gone, and in their place, were some understated auburn tresses instead! We had to do a double take when we saw her picture, because we would have *never* recognized her!
The picture was simply captioned, “Penny Jo,” which is in reference to Penny Jo Poplin, a new character she is playing in the upcoming movie, National Anthem. The new character doesn’t appear to be as glamorous as her Euphoria character, Cassie Howard though, as Sweeney is rocking a bare-faced complexion, complete with some of the most adorable freckles we’ve ever seen!

Although we are obsessed with her as a blonde, we have to admit that we aren’t mad about her changing up her hair. In fact, just like Kendall Jenner who also wowed us with her brand new and very unexpected fiery red hair last month, we think Sydney looks incredible with this new color too! And we aren’t alone, as her picture received over 2.5 million likes, and over 4,000 comments full of praise for not only the hair, but the whole toned down look in general!
“Bangs are such a vibe and look on you,” one fan wrote, while another commented, “THE BANGS.” Another fan said, “Now i want bangs omg,” which is kind of how we feel too. “RED HAIR SYDNEY NATION, RISE UP” another fan commented. “Red hair!” exclaimed another, preceded by a fire emoji and a red heart emoji, and followed by a heart eyes emoji. As expected, the freckles were also a big hit! “The freckles!” one fan exclaimed. “Those freckles,” added another, followed by three heart eyes emojis.

But it isn’t just her new hair that Sweeney has shocked her fans with this week, as she was papped (with her new hair color, of course) in Los Angeles with an enormous sparkling ring on her engagement finger! Although her reps haven’t confirmed whether she and long-term boyfriend, 37-year-old Jonathan Davino, are engaged, and neither Sydney nor Jonathan have commented on the rumors, several outlets have confirmed that the engagement ring pictures don’t lie, and she and Jonathan are indeed engaged! So we guess congrats are in order!
Sydney has always been very tight-lipped about her relationship, although she briefly opened up about her “support system” as part of her Cosmopolitan interview when she covered its February 2022 issue. She told the mag: “I don’t date people in the spotlight. I don’t date actors or musicians or anyone in entertainment because I can just be normal Syd that way and it’s easiest. I have a great support system.” She then told the mag some of the qualities she looks for in a partner, adding: “I look for a best friend. I need to be able to be with someone who I can literally hang out with 24/7 and never get sick of and we laugh every single day.” We assume that Davino ticks all of these boxes!
